The first is by clicking the Start Menu, and clicking Search; the second is by right clicking My Computer and clicking Search. If you have the indexing enabled then you might have turned off the indexing service accidentally. So it cannot be Windows updates. When I go to START and click on Search, the computer freezes up momentarily (30 seconds to 1 minute) and then unfreezes; but the Search window never comes up. The missing search option problem is solved. yer not using that CC for downstairs are ya? we there yet?
